Suman Kumar’s Record-Breaking 10-Wicket Haul Propels Bihar in Cooch Behar Trophy

Patna: Suman Kumar from Samastipur, Bihar, delivered an extraordinary performance in the Cooch Behar Trophy Under-19 Men’s Cricket Tournament, claiming all 10 wickets in an innings, including a hat-trick, against Rajasthan. His record-setting feat at the Moinul Haq Stadium has brought him a total of 22 wickets this season and placed Bihar in a commanding position.

After dismissing Rajasthan for 182 in their first innings, Bihar posted an imposing total of 467, gaining a lead of 285 runs. At the end of the third day, Rajasthan were 173 for two in their follow-on innings, trailing by 112 runs.

Resuming their innings at 70 for one, Rajasthan’s progress was halted early as Suman struck, removing captain Tausit. He created history in the 36th over by claiming a hat-trick, dismissing Mohit Bhagtani, Anas, and Sachin Sharma. He continued to dominate, taking two wickets in the 44th over, including the well-set Parth Yadav and Akash Mundal.

Jatin and Abhas Shrimali offered some resistance, adding 54 runs in 130 balls. However, Suman broke their stand by dismissing Shrimali in the 66th over, leaving Rajasthan struggling at 141. Suman completed his exceptional 10-wicket haul by dismissing Jatin and Gulab Singh, finishing with remarkable figures of 10 for 53 in 33.5 overs, including 20 maidens.

In Rajasthan’s second innings, Aditya Raj took two wickets for Bihar, while Parth Yadav (83*) and Tausit (52*) remained unbeaten at stumps, keeping Rajasthan’s hopes alive.

BCA President Commends Suman Kumar

Rakesh Kumar Tiwari, President of the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA), congratulated Suman for his outstanding achievement, calling it a proud moment for Bihar cricket. He noted that the feat reflects the improving cricketing environment in the state, with young talents like Suman excelling.

Tiwari also highlighted the success of other Bihar players, such as Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a member of India’s Under-19 team, and Prithvi Raj, a leading batsman in this season’s Cooch Behar Trophy. He reaffirmed the BCA’s commitment to enhancing facilities and fostering talent, expressing confidence in Bihar’s potential to contribute significantly to Indian cricket.

The President concluded by wishing Suman a bright future and reiterating the BCA’s dedication to developing young cricketers.
