Patna: Patna Police have arrested Chavanniyan, also known as Sanjit Paswan, for involvement in smuggling smack and the kidnapping of a three-year-old girl. Kotwali DSP for Law and Order, Krishna Murari Prasad, said that on Monday evening, Kotwali Thanedaar Rajan Kumar received information that Chavanniyan was undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Yarpur. Officers from Kotwali police station arrived at the hospital in plain clothes, checked the logbook, and located Chavanniyan in room 206. When they entered the room, they found two women present and noticed the bathroom door was locked. Upon opening it, they discovered Chavanniyan hiding inside. He is currently receiving treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH) under police custody, having sustained injuries during a stone-pelting incident with police.
According to DSP Krishna Murari Prasad, late on Sunday night a joint team from Kotwali and Buddha Colony police stations had attempted to arrest Chavanniyan and his brothers, Ranjit and Beda, in Kamala Nehru Nagar for their alleged involvement in both the kidnapping of the child, Ruksar, and the smuggling of smack. During the operation, local women attacked the police with bricks and stones, allowing Chavanniyan to escape, though he was seriously injured in the attempt.
Kotwali police revealed that Chavanniyan has amassed significant wealth from his involvement in drug smuggling and has married three times. His first wife is named Ruby Devi, his second Shahnaz Khatoon, and his third wife is reportedly from Nepal, though police have yet to confirm her full details. DSP Prasad indicated that Chavanniyan’s brothers and all three wives may also be implicated in the drug trade and possibly in the child abduction.
The police have sealed two of Chavanniyan’s bank accounts, which reportedly hold deposits totalling ₹4.51 lakh. The investigation is ongoing.
