Former Harvard Director Dr Sanjay Kumar Joins JD(U), Citing Faith in Bihar CM Nitish Kumar

Patna: On Wednesday, Dr Sanjay Kumar, former director of Harvard University’s India operations, officially joined the Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], expressing his faith in Bihar Chief Minister and JD(U) national president Nitish Kumar. Dr Kumar took primary membership of JD(U) in a ceremony led by the party’s national working president, Sanjay Kumar Jha, at JD(U)’s central office in New Delhi. The event was attended by party national general secretary Afaque Ahmed Khan, national secretary and spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, and national secretary Mohammad Nisar.

With a distinguished career spanning over two decades, Dr Sanjay Kumar is widely recognised for his contributions in the fields of education, social impact, and leadership. He has held leadership roles at renowned institutions, including Harvard University and Tufts University. Dr Kumar earned a PhD in Microfinance from Jawaharlal Nehru University and a Master’s in Public Administration and Public Policy from Harvard University.

In his ongoing efforts to strengthen public education, Dr Kumar founded the Edjustice People’s Campaign, contributing over 30,000 voluntary hours to teach students in public-funded schools and colleges in Bihar, Rajasthan, and Delhi under the flagship programme “Gyan-Daan.” Additionally, Dr Kumar played a pivotal role as Director of Sewa India, overseeing the mobilisation of around 1.9 million women workers in the informal sector.
