Patna: Former minister Shyam Rajak, who recently joined Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United) [JD(U)], has been entrusted with a significant role as the party’s national general secretary. Rajak, who joined JD(U) on 1st September, had previously voiced his displeasure with the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) over the distribution of tickets in the Lok Sabha elections, accusing party leader Lalu Yadav of nepotism.
JD(U) is currently undergoing several organisational changes. Recently, the party formed a new state executive committee, comprising 118 members. Prior to this, all party cells were dissolved and reconstituted, followed by the formation of a new state committee.
Rajak, once a prominent leader in RJD, expressed his frustration over the party’s ticket allocation process for the elections. He accused Lalu Yadav of favouring family members, which led to his departure. In contrast, Rajak praised CM Nitish Kumar for fostering development across Bihar and described working under his leadership as a privilege.
As part of the recent changes within JD(U), 115 leaders have been assigned key positions, including 10 vice presidents, 49 general secretaries, 46 secretaries, 9 spokespersons, and one treasurer. The party has implemented a series of reforms over the past few days, first restructuring the state committee, followed by reorganisation of its cells, and now a new state executive. Earlier, Sanjay Jha was appointed as the acting president of JD(U), while former IAS officer Manish Kumar Verma was assigned the role of state president of the media department.
