Patna: On the second day of the Bihar State Under-13 Girls and Boys Chess Championship, organised by the Katihar District Chess Association under the auspices of the All Bihar Chess Association, Avyay Sharma from Patna emerged as the frontrunner in the boys’ category, securing 5 points after five rounds. Five other players are close behind, each with 4.5 points.
In the girls’ category, Aadya Shri from Muzaffarpur and Arpita Singh from Bhojpur share the top spot with 4.5 points each, while six players are tied for second place, all with 4 points.
The fifth round in the boys’ category saw draws on the top two boards, with matches between Pratyush and Ekansh Bhardwaj, and Jayesh and Tejas Shandilya ending without a decisive result. However, on the third board, Avyay Sharma defeated Akshat Raj, achieving a perfect score of 5 out of 5 points.
In the girls’ category, the top board match between Aadya Shri and Arpita Singh ended in a draw, allowing them to maintain their joint lead by a half-point margin over the other competitors. Navya Goenka, Shalini Srivastava, Abhishree Deepu, Vishnu Priya Jha, Palchin Jain, and Charvi Baid are in joint second place with 4 points each.
