Patna: The Siphai Bhagat Memorial Inter-School Kho-Kho Tournament, organised by the Siphai Bhagat Foundation, commenced with much enthusiasm on Saturday at Open Mind A Birla School, Danapur. The two-day event aims to bring together schools in a spirited competition, honouring the memory of Siphai Bhagat.
On the first day of the tournament, the teams from Sipahi Bhagat Foundation and Saint Teresa School secured victories in both categories.
The inauguration ceremony was graced by Mrityunjay Tiwari, President of the Bihar Players Association, and Paljinder Pal Singh, Principal of Open Mind A Birla School. The ceremony included the symbolic breaking of a coconut and the release of white pigeons, representing peace. The dignitaries then introduced themselves to the players. Aman Kumar, COO of the school, extended his best wishes to all participants and the organisers.
The event opened with the national anthem, followed by a floral tribute to Siphai Bhagat in front of his portrait. A colourful march-past then took place, with the school’s sports head, Karandhir Sharma, initiating the parade by waving the green flag. The guests took the salute, and the students captivated the audience with cultural performances. Principal Paljinder Pal Singh welcomed the guests by presenting them with bouquets, mementoes, and shawls.
The programme was attended by notable figures including Middle Wing Coordinator Poonam Pandey, Primary Wing Coordinator Nupur, and Pre-Primary Wing Coordinator Momita Sen. Santosh Tiwari, founder of the Sardar Patel Sports Foundation, supervised the event. The tournament features matches in the Under-15 category for girls and the Under-17 category for boys.
