Patna: Patients at the Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), Bihar’s largest government-run hospital, will soon have access to state-of-the-art diagnostic facilities. Two new CT scan machines and a research-grade MRI machine are scheduled to be installed in the hospital’s new radiology building later this month.
The Health Department said the new machines would enable faster, high-quality diagnostic services for patients while also assisting doctors in the study and research of complex diseases. Bihar Health Minister Nishant Kumar said the state government was continuously working to provide modern, world-class healthcare facilities in government hospitals.
He said the installation of advanced CT scan and MRI machines at PMCH would mark a significant step forward for Bihar’s healthcare services. Patients would no longer have to endure long waiting periods for diagnostic tests, and better-quality investigations would be available within the state at affordable costs.
“Our priority is to ensure that patients do not have to travel to other states for treatment and diagnostic investigations. The state government is consistently working to introduce modern and world-class healthcare facilities in government hospitals,” Health Minister Nishant Kumar said.
PMCH Superintendent Dr Rajeev Kumar Singh said the installation of both CT scan machines and the MRI machine in the new radiology building would be completed by the end of this month, after which diagnostic services would begin. He added that such advanced machines were being installed in a government hospital in Bihar for the first time and would not only be used for patient diagnosis but also for research on various diseases.
The superintendent said the new MRI and CT scan machines would have substantially higher capacity than the existing equipment. Each machine would be capable of conducting diagnostic examinations for more than 100 patients every 24 hours, helping reduce waiting lists and ensuring quicker delivery of reports.
He said trained technicians would be appointed through an outsourcing process, with the Bihar Medical Services and Infrastructure Corporation Limited (BMSICL) providing the required workforce. The Rogi Kalyan Samiti would also hold a meeting to determine diagnostic charges so that patients could access advanced investigations at minimal cost.
Diagnostic services at PMCH have been expanding steadily. According to the hospital administration, the pathology department conducted more than 234,018 diagnostic tests in June alone, marking a significant achievement for the institution. The introduction of the new machines is expected to further enhance diagnostic capacity and provide patients with more convenient, timely and high-quality services within a single hospital campus.
The Health Department believes that expanding advanced radiology services will facilitate the early detection of serious diseases while making quality diagnostic facilities more affordable for economically weaker patients. The department’s objective is to strengthen modern medical infrastructure across government hospitals in Bihar and ensure that quality healthcare services are available within the state.
