Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Sunday reviewed healthcare services, infrastructure and the proposed expansion plans of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) Patna, reiterating the state government’s commitment to strengthening tertiary healthcare and assuring full support for the institute’s expansion to meet the rising demand for advanced medical treatment in Bihar and neighbouring states.
During his visit, the Chief Minister carried out a detailed inspection of several key departments, including the Burn Centre, Outpatient Department (OPD), Nuclear Medicine Department and Inpatient Department (IPD). He interacted with doctors, healthcare professionals and senior officials to review the functioning of various departments and assess the quality of medical services being provided to patients. Choudhary appreciated the institute’s efforts in delivering modern, accessible and quality healthcare facilities.
The Chief Minister also inspected the land identified for the proposed expansion of AIIMS Patna and reviewed the master plan for the project. He said the expansion had become essential as the institute caters to a large number of patients not only from Bihar but also from neighbouring states seeking specialised treatment.
“AIIMS Patna receives a large number of patients from Bihar and adjoining states. In view of the increasing patient load, expansion of the institute is the need of the hour,” Choudhary said.
According to the proposed expansion plan, new clinical blocks, advanced treatment facilities and upgraded infrastructure for medical education and research will be developed. Around 200 additional beds will also be added, significantly enhancing the institute’s capacity to provide timely and better healthcare services to patients.
The Chief Minister said the Bihar government remained committed to further strengthening tertiary healthcare services across the state and would extend every possible support for the comprehensive development and expansion of AIIMS Patna.
“The state government is fully committed to reinforcing tertiary healthcare services in Bihar and will provide every possible assistance for the overall development and expansion of AIIMS Patna,” he said.

He expressed confidence that the expansion would provide world-class medical facilities to the people of Bihar while further strengthening the state’s healthcare system. He added that the project would not only increase the institute’s treatment capacity but also reduce the need for patients to travel outside the state for advanced medical care.
Following the inspection, the Chief Minister chaired a review meeting during which ongoing projects, infrastructure requirements and future development plans of the institute were discussed in detail. Officials also briefed him on AIIMS Patna’s achievements, healthcare services and the proposed expansion project.
Earlier, Executive Director of AIIMS Patna, Prof. (Brigadier) Dr Raju Agrawal, welcomed the Chief Minister. The meeting was attended by the Medical Superintendent, Deputy Director (Administration), Senior Administrative Officer, faculty members and other senior officials. The visit was seen as reflecting the shared commitment of the Bihar government and AIIMS Patna to providing modern, affordable and high-quality healthcare services to the people of the state.
