Patna: The JD(U) held an important meeting at its state headquarters in Patna on Sunday, bringing together members of both the National Council and the State Council. The meeting was conducted in two phases, during which key organisational decisions were unanimously approved, reaffirming the party’s leadership and strategic direction.
In the first phase, the State Council ratified the re-election of Umesh Singh Kushwaha as the state president for a third consecutive term. This decision was endorsed unanimously, reflecting continued confidence in his leadership at the state level.
The second phase witnessed the National Council approving the re-election of fromer Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar as the party’s national president. A total of 223 representatives from 19 states participated in the meeting, underlining the party’s nationwide organisational presence.
During the State Council proceedings, Minister Ashok Choudhary presented the political resolution, which was supported by Minister Sheila Mandal. The session concluded with a vote of thanks by Minister Shravan Kumar. In the National Council meeting , the political resolution was introduced by Chandeshwar Prasad Chandravanshi and seconded by the party’s national general secretary Shyam Rajak. An organisational resolution was presented by national general secretary Afaq Ahmad and supported by Ms Lesi Singh.

Addressing the gathering after his re-election, Nitish Kumar expressed gratitude to party members and highlighted JD(U)’s commitment to “development with justice”. He said that the party’s primary membership has now crossed one crore, attributing this growth to sustained public trust. Reflecting on Bihar’s transformation since 2005, he said the government had worked with sincerity to uplift all sections of society and integrate them into the mainstream of development.
Kumar also emphasised the progress of welfare initiatives, including the ‘Saat Nishchay-3’ programme, and acknowledged continued support from the Central Government. He expressed confidence that coordinated efforts between the state and Centre would propel Bihar towards becoming one of India’s leading developed states.
Senior leaders, including Sanjay Kumar Jha and Rajiv Ranjan Singh, praised Kumar’s leadership, crediting him with establishing strong governance and economic stability in Bihar. They also pointed to the emerging role of Nishant Kumar in strengthening the party organisation and energising workers.

Umesh Singh Kushwaha highlighted the party’s rapid expansion, noting that membership had grown from 30 lakh during his first term to over one crore at present. He credited grassroots workers for this achievement and reiterated the party’s commitment to organisational strengthening.
The meeting also discussed proposals related to organisational discipline, training programmes, and strengthening social media outreach at the district level. Additionally, Nitish Kumar was authorised to take decisions regarding party assets and constitutional amendments as required.
The event concluded with a press briefing by national spokesperson Rajiv Ranjan Prasad, who described the leadership decisions and organisational resolutions as reflective of unity and forward-looking governance within the party.
