Patna: Bihar Agriculture Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha on Wednesday reviewed the functioning of seed analysis and government seed multiplication farms at a meeting held at Krishi Bhawan in Mithapur. The review focused on ensuring that farmers receive high-quality, certified seeds through existing schemes and systems across the state.
During the meeting, the minister directed officials to speed up the establishment and strengthening of seed testing laboratories in Bihar. He said that approval has already been granted for setting up 31 district-level seed analysis laboratories, and plans for their operation and expansion are currently underway. He also sought details on when the establishment of these laboratories began and the current status of their expansion.
Sinha instructed officials to provide a detailed list of sub-standard seeds identified over the past three years. He pointed out that complaints regarding poor-quality seeds are reported every year and asked for complete information on the action taken against the companies involved.
Issuing clear directions, the minister said that strict and appropriate action must be taken against seed companies found selling sub-standard products in the market. He emphasised that such steps are necessary to safeguard farmers’ interests and ensure they receive quality seeds.
The meeting also reviewed the functioning of government seed multiplication farms. The minister directed officials to make all necessary efforts to produce foundation seeds in line with seasonal requirements. He further stressed the need to strengthen the chain of certified seed production through the Bihar State Seed Corporation, so that farmers receive sufficient quantities of quality seeds on time.
