Patna: Union Minister Chirag Paswan has made a strong statement regarding the absence of the DMK from the INDIA alliance meeting in Delhi, claiming that the Congress party had “betrayed” its ally.
He said that visible cracks were emerging within the INDIA alliance. According to Paswan, the Congress, driven by its desire for power, had acted unfairly towards the DMK, leading the party to distance itself.
“The way Congress has deceived DMK in its pursuit of power, it is only natural that parties like DMK would choose to keep their distance,” he remarked.
Paswan also expressed surprise at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee arriving in Delhi a day ahead of the meeting. He said her enthusiasm, pointing out the contrast with past tensions between her and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
He recalled that during the West Bengal elections, Congress had accused Mamata Banerjee of corruption and promoting violence. “Today, she has reached Delhi a day early for the INDIA alliance meeting,” he added.
Describing the alliance as a mere arrangement, Paswan alleged that its members were attempting to conceal each other’s weaknesses and shortcomings. He argued that this was the reason the alliance had never succeeded.
“History shows that whenever unity was required, members of the alliance have ended up betraying one another,” he said.
Speaking on the Bihar Legislative Council (MLC) elections, Paswan said that, with the support of party MLAs, the Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) was fielding a candidate. He described it as a matter of pride for the party.
He announced that Ashraf Ansari had been selected as the candidate, saying that Ansari’s father had been a long-time associate and selfless worker alongside the late Ram Vilas Paswan.
Commenting on the absence of Lalu Prasad Yadav and Tejashwi Yadav during the MLC nominations, Paswan said that the seriousness expected regarding party positions was not visible.
On the issue of Rabri Devi’s security being withdrawn, he stated that security arrangements are adjusted according to circumstances and should not be politicised. He added that his own security had also been reduced and later increased on several occasions.
