Patna: An eight-day Summer Visual Arts Workshop 2026, organised by the Bihar Lalit Kala Academy under the Department of Art and Culture, Government of Bihar, was formally inaugurated today.
The workshop was opened by Dr Pramod Kumar, Minister for Art and Culture, Government of Bihar. The event was attended by Director of the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, Mrs Ruby (IAS), Director of the Directorate of Museums, Mr Krishna Kumar (IAS), Secretary of Bihar Lalit Kala Academy, Mrs Amrita Preetam, along with artists, trainers, parents, and a large number of children.
In his address, Dr Kumar said that the Department of Art and Culture is committed to encouraging the talents of children and young people. He noted that many gifted individuals are present across various districts of the state and need proper platforms and training opportunities. The department, he added, is continuously working in this direction.
The minister also suggested organising a residential art workshop of at least one month in the future, allowing children from different districts of Bihar to participate. He stated that a proposal to provide accommodation, meals and other necessary facilities for such participants would be considered, ensuring that talents from remote areas also get the opportunity to develop their artistic skills.

Mrs Ruby, Director of the Directorate of Cultural Affairs, highlighted the importance of such workshops in nurturing children’s imagination, creativity and innovative thinking. She said that art provides a meaningful medium for expression and helps build confidence among young participants.
The workshop, scheduled from 3 June to 10 June, will offer training to children and teenagers aged between 8 and 16 years in art forms such as papier-mâché, craft using waste materials, and terracotta. Participants will also learn about the creative use of discarded items, environmental conservation, and the concept of ‘waste to best’.

The sessions will be held daily from 11:00 am to 3:00 pm at the multipurpose cultural complex of the Bihar Lalit Kala Academy. During the training period, participants will be provided with necessary art materials and refreshments free of cost.
At the conclusion of the inaugural programme, Secretary Mrs Amrita Preetam expressed gratitude to all guests, artists, trainers, parents and participants. The event was conducted by Mrs Soma Chakravarti.
