Bhagalpur: A late-night cyclone on May 25, followed by heavy rain and strong winds on the night of May 26, severely disrupted electricity supply across Bhagalpur, prompting urgent action by district authorities.
The Bhagalpur District Magistrate Dr. Nawal Kishor Choudhary convened an online review meeting with the Superintending Engineer of the Electricity Department, Executive Engineers of all three divisions in Bhagalpur, officials from the Public Health Engineering Department (PHED), the Municipal Commissioner of Bhagalpur Municipal Corporation, Sub-Divisional Officers, and other concerned officials.
During the meeting, the District Magistrate sought updates from Executive Engineers in Bhagalpur, Kahalgaon and Naugachhia regarding the power situation.
Officials reported that restoration work on the Aliganj feeder was underway on a war footing. In Lodipur (Sabour), three electricity poles are yet to be installed. In the Nathnagar area, a palm tree has fallen on power lines and restoration work is in progress. Electricity supply has been restored in urban areas of Naugachhia.
However, issues persist in parts of Gopalpur, as well as in Bihpur and Kharik, where feeders and poles have been damaged. Additional teams from Munger and Katihar are on their way to assist with restoration work. Repairs are also progressing rapidly in Mirjan Hat. The conductor of the BGP-1 feeder had fallen but is expected to be fixed within two hours.

Officials noted that electricity had been restored in many areas by late night on May 25, but the fresh spell of storm and rain on May 26 caused further disruptions. Restoration efforts are continuing at full pace in the affected regions.
Issuing a strict ultimatum, the District Magistrate directed the Superintending Engineer to ensure complete restoration of power supply across Bhagalpur within four hours. He instructed that additional teams be called in from neighbouring districts if required, and stressed that electricity must be restored in all areas by 1:00 pm.
Following the review, the Managing Director of the Electricity Department is travelling from Patna to Bhagalpur by helicopter with a team of engineers. He is expected to arrive within 90 minutes and will remain in the district until power supply is fully restored.
Meanwhile, the Municipal Corporation and PHED have been instructed to provide immediate water supply through tankers in affected areas.
