Patna: Delhi Public School (DPS) Patna East hosted Checkmate 2026 in an atmosphere marked by intellect, discipline and strategic excellence. The two-day championship, began today witnessing participation from talented young chess players representing several leading schools across the region.
The event commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp, followed by a captivating welcome song and an elegant cultural dance performance by students. The opening ceremony was graced by Amit Prakash, Pro-Vice Chairman; Dr Rakesh Alfred, Principal; and Mohammad Ashfaq Iqbal, Deputy Head of Academics, reflecting the institution’s commitment to academic and intellectual excellence.
The occasion was further elevated by the presence of chief guest Diljit Khanna, while Dharmendra Kumar attended as the guest of honour. In their addresses, the dignitaries highlighted the importance of chess in nurturing patience, analytical thinking, foresight and mental resilience among students.
The tournament is being conducted under the supervision of Chief Arbiter Shashi Nand Kumar and Deputy Chief Arbiter Alok Priyadarshi. Members of the organising committee ensured the smooth and fair conduct of the tournament.

A total of 300 students from 23 schools, including Litera Valley School, Loyola High School, St Karen’s Senior Secondary School, Radiant International School and Trinity Global School, participated in the championship, with several reputed institutions taking part enthusiastically.
The ceremony concluded with the formal announcement of the commencement of Round One, setting the stage for an exciting series of matches filled with strategy, skill and intellectual competition.

Under-11 Boys:
DPS East defeated St Teresa 4–0; Litera Valley beat DAV Public School, Khagaul 4–0; DPS Danapur overcame Shring Sheffield School 4–0.
Under-11 Girls:
DPS East defeated St Teresa International School 4–0; Carmel High School beat Litera Valley School 3–1.
Under-14 Boys:
DPS East defeated Radiant International School 3–1; St Teresa International School beat BD Public School, Beur 3–1.
Under-14 Girls:
DPS East defeated BD Public School 3–1; Bishop Scott Senior Secondary School beat Edify School 4–0.
Under-16 Boys:
DPS East defeated Leeds International School 4–0; Litera Valley beat Christ Church School 4–0.
Under-16 Girls:
DPS East defeated BD Public School 4–0; Litera Valley School beat Bishop Scott Senior Secondary Girls’ School 3.5–0.5.
