Patna: A significant milestone has been achieved in the expansion of the Patna Metro rail network, raising hopes for the early commencement of services on the Bhootnath–Malahi Pakri (down line) corridor. The Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety (CMRS), Neelabhra Sengupta, conducted a detailed inspection of the stretch along with his team, indicating that revenue operations could begin shortly and bring much-needed relief to commuters in the state capital.
During the inspection, the CMRS undertook a thorough assessment of the entire section using a trolley inspection car. Key aspects such as the viaduct structure, track fitness, and the reliability of the overhead electrical system were examined meticulously. Officials ensured that all safety parameters were in strict compliance with prescribed standards to avoid any technical disruptions during operations.
At Malahi Pakri Metro Station, special attention was given to passenger amenities and safety infrastructure. Facilities including fire-fighting systems, lifts, escalators, and emergency evacuation arrangements were inspected in detail. Authorities expressed satisfaction with the station’s preparedness, noting that both passenger safety and convenience had been prioritised.
A trial run of metro trains was also conducted in both directions. The exercise aimed to evaluate real-time performance, including speed, braking systems, and overall operational efficiency. The trial was found to be satisfactory, signalling that the section is nearly ready for commercial operations. Following the inspection, the CMRS expressed satisfaction with the overall quality of work.

“The construction work and adherence to safety standards have been carried out effectively. This reflects the dedication of engineers and staff involved in the Patna Metro project, who have ensured timely progress,” the Metro Railway Safety Commissioner said.
It is now expected that metro services between Malahi Pakri and Pataliputra ISBT could commence within a month. The development is likely to ease traffic congestion and provide greater convenience for passengers travelling towards Jharkhand via bus services. As per proposed fare structures, travel from ISBT to Malahi Pakri may cost ₹30, while the fare to Bhootnath is expected to be around ₹15.
Officials stated that the corridor will be opened to the public soon after receiving final clearance from the CMRS. The launch will significantly enhance fast, safe, and efficient public transport options for residents in the eastern parts of the city.
