All the position holders of Rupesh Ranjan Memorial Open Rapid Chess Tournament in Patna.

Patna: Internationally rated player Rupesh B. Ramachandra of Patna emerged champion of the Rupesh Ranjan Memorial Open Rapid Chess Tournament, held at the Gymnasium Hall of Patna Science College under the joint aegis of the Patna Chess Academy and The Chess Circle. Remaining unbeaten across seven rounds, Ramachandra secured 6.5 points to claim the top honour.
Piyush Kumar of Patna finished second with 6 points, while Aniket Ranjan of Begusarai took third place on the same score. Veteran international player Pramod Kumar Singh of Patna secured fourth position, also with 6 points.
The tournament was organised in memory of Rupesh Ranjan, an accomplished international chess player from Bihar. His notable achievements included a fifth-place finish at the South Asian Amateur Chess Championship 2016 in Jammu, victory at the DCA FIDE Rating Tournament 2013 in New Delhi, and a runner-up finish at the Vijayawada FIDE Rating Tournament 2014. He had represented Bihar in several senior and age-group national competitions. Academically, he graduated in Mathematics from Patna Science College in 2012 and completed his postgraduate studies from the Mathematics Department of Patna University in 2014. From 2022 until his demise, he served as a guest lecturer at Barh Polytechnic.
A total of 123 players, including 47 internationally rated participants from across the state, competed in the tournament. Prizes were distributed by Patna Chess Academy Secretary Rakesh Ranjan and Dilip Bhagat in the presence of organising chairman Manmohan Pandey and other dignitaries.
According to Chief Arbiter Rakesh Kumar, the top finishers in the main category were: Rupesh B. Ramachandra (1st), Piyush Kumar (2nd), Aniket Ranjan (3rd), P.K. Singh (4th), Sushil Kumar Singh (5th), Rajkumar Chauhan (6th), Nilesh Shankar (7th), Mohammad Tabassir Alam (8th), Minhajul Hoda (9th), Abhishek Sonu (10th), Abhishek Sahni (11th), Raj Aryan (12th), Rakesh Kumar (13th), Alok Priyadarshi (14th) and Neeraj Kumar (15th).
In the special categories, Kunal secured first place and Vidyapati second among veterans. In the women’s category, Aditi Singh finished first, followed by Adiba Ullah in second and Rajshree in third.
In the Under-19 boys’ section, Kartikeya Nandan claimed first place, with Kartik Kumar second and Romang Vats third. In the girls’ section, Kritika Ranjan secured first, followed by Ashika Kumari and Swati Kumari.
In the Under-15 category, Avyay Sharma (boys) and Sanvi Prakash (girls) emerged winners, with Achintya Kashyap and Anubhav Mishra finishing second and third among boys, while Trisha Ranjan and Anika Abhinav secured second and third among girls.
In the Under-10 category, Shreyansh Singh topped the boys’ section, followed by Priyanshu Raj and Adhrit Tiwari, while Shanvi Singh, Divya Rashmi Anand and Chetan Lakshmi finished first, second and third respectively in the girls’ section.
In the Under-7 category, Bhavyansh Anantjeet (boys) and Avika Abhinav (girls) secured top honours, with Aryan Kumar and Shivay Chaudhary finishing second and third among boys, and Ayra Dalmia and Anvi Shroff taking second and third places among girls.
