Patna: Police in Patna have achieved a major breakthrough after seizing a large consignment of narcotics during a raid conducted by the Khagaul police station team. Acting on a tip-off, officers raided a house in Nainchak Mustafapur village and recovered a substantial quantity of heroin and brown sugar. One alleged trafficker has been arrested in connection with the case.
According to the police, the total weight of the seized narcotics is 4.846 kilograms, with an estimated international market value of around ₹7.5 crore. Officials said the raid was carried out on Saturday after receiving confidential information that drug trafficking activities were being carried out in the area.
During the search operation, police recovered the narcotic substances from the accused’s residence. In addition to heroin and brown sugar, officers also seized a digital electronic weighing scale, ₹2,400 in cash and a mobile phone from the spot. The accused was arrested immediately and is currently being interrogated.
Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K Sharma said that during preliminary questioning the accused revealed that the consignment was mainly sourced from North-Eastern regions of the country. Individuals involved in transporting the drugs were allegedly paid around ₹1 lakh for bringing the contraband.
The SSP further stated that the narcotics were largely transported through railway routes, and based on the interrogation of the arrested suspect, efforts are underway to identify other members of the trafficking network. The kingpin of the racket is currently absconding, and police teams are conducting raids to apprehend him.
Mr Sharma also said that authorities will investigate properties allegedly acquired through illegal drug trafficking. Action will be taken under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act to confiscate assets accumulated through illicit earnings.
Meanwhile, the Patna police have appealed to the public to share any information related to drug trafficking. A dedicated mobile number 8102488655 has been issued for this purpose, and officials assured that the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential.
