Patna: In a tragic incident near Mithapur bypass in the Jakkanpur police station area, a Patna Municipal Corporation dumper collided with an auto-rickshaw, causing the vehicle to overturn. A two-year-old girl travelling in the auto sustained a leg injury, reportedly a fracture. Following the accident, the dumper driver fled the scene, abandoning the vehicle.
Local residents protested by blocking the road for nearly one and a half hours, creating a commotion. Police teams from Jakkanpur, Kankarbagh, and the traffic police station, led by Jakkanpur Station In-Charge Rituraj, reached the spot to manage the situation. The injured girl was rushed to a private hospital nearby, where doctors confirmed a leg injury, though conflicting reports about a fracture were noted between police and hospital sources.
The accident occurred as the family was returning home in the auto-rickshaw after bathing in the Ganga. The auto overturned upon impact, throwing five passengers, including a woman and the injured girl, onto the road. The girl’s leg was reportedly hurt by the truck. Police have seized the dumper and are searching for the absconding driver.
Photographers Injured in JP Setu Accident
In a separate incident on JP Setu, two photographers, Indrajit and Aftab Alam, were seriously injured after their bike was hit by a car. The photographers were returning after capturing images of Ganga bathing rituals when the collision occurred, damaging their bike.
Passers-by apprehended the car driver, who admitted to falling asleep at the wheel, causing the accident. The driver, identified as a teacher, was handed over to the traffic police. The injured photographers were taken to a private hospital for treatment.
Both accidents highlight the urgent need for improved road safety measures in Patna.
