Patna: A new and dedicated transport facility for Bihar government employees is set to be launched in Patna from May 18, with the introduction of special electric and “pink” bus services for Bihar Secretariat staff.
The initiative will provide direct and convenient connectivity to both the New and Old Secretariat, making daily commuting easier for employees.
Transport Secretary Raj Kumar said the primary aim of the scheme is to ensure safe, timely and accessible travel for government workers. He added that reducing dependence on private vehicles, saving fuel and easing traffic congestion are also key objectives.
The initiative, operated by the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation, is expected to promote the use of electric buses in the city. At present, 25 electric buses are already running successfully in Patna.
Officials said that a large number of government employees currently rely on private vehicles to travel to the Secretariat, contributing to traffic jams and increased fuel consumption. The new bus service is expected to help address these issues.
The electric and pink buses will operate across several major routes in the city. One route will run from Patna Junction Multi-Modal Hub through R Block, Income Tax, Vidyut Bhawan, Patna High Court and Bihar Museum, before reaching both Secretariat complexes. Services will begin at 8:30 am, with return journeys available in the evening.
Another route will start from Dhanuki Mor, passing through Kumhrar, Bhootnath Road, NMCH, Rajendra Nagar Terminal, Kankarbagh Colony Mor, Karbigahiya Station and R Block, before reaching Vikas Bhawan.
From Gandhi Maidan, buses will travel via Dakbungalow Crossing, Income Tax, Niyojan Bhawan, Vidyut Bhawan, the High Court and Bihar Museum to the Secretariat.
A special pink bus service for women employees will begin from Kurji, covering P&M Mall, Sai Mandir, Patliputra Colony, AN College, Boring Road Crossing and Hartali Mor before reaching the Secretariat.
Electric and pink buses will also operate from Danapur Station, passing through Saguna Mor, RPS Mor, Gola Road, Jagdev Path, Ashiana Nagar, IGIMS, Sheikhpura Mor and the city zoo. Services on this route will begin at 8:15 am.
The timetable has been designed to suit office hours, ensuring employees reach the Secretariat on time in the morning and return home conveniently in the evening. Additional services for women employees will also be available around 5 pm.
Officials believe the scheme will significantly reduce the number of private vehicles on the roads, helping to ease traffic congestion and curb pollution levels. It is also expected to result in substantial savings in petrol and diesel consumption.
The government sees this initiative as a major step towards building a modern and environmentally friendly public transport system in Patna.
