Patna: ‘Mission Total Segregation’ is set to commence on 19th September, as announced by Urban Development and Housing Minister Nitin Nabin during an event at the Housing Board Auditorium on Monday. The initiative, spearheaded by the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC), aims to enhance the city’s performance in Swachh Sarvekshan 2024 and achieve a garbage-free status. Residents will be encouraged to separate dry and wet waste to facilitate efficient collection and disposal.

Prominent figures at the meeting included Mayor Sita Sahu, Deputy Mayor Reshmi Chandravanshi, Municipal Commissioner Animesh Kumar Parashar, and representatives from various social welfare organisations, along with members of the Empowered Standing Committee, Dr. Ashish Sinha and Dr. Indradeep Chandravanshi. Minister Nabin highlighted the importance of public participation under the campaign ‘My City, My Accountability’, which will involve government and non-government institutions, college and school students, and social organisations. Influential personalities will be appointed as cleanliness ambassadors to promote the drive.

In addition to community involvement, Patna Municipal Corporation will train cleaning inspectors, drivers, helpers, and mobilisers. For the first time, vehicles collecting waste will include a third member—a mobiliser—who will accompany the driver and helper. This mobiliser will be responsible for educating the public on waste segregation. The mission will officially be launched in the presence of the Governor.

The campaign will cover 75 wards in Patna, with 375 teams of 2,000 workers undergoing specialised training. Notably, women from self-help groups will be participating in Mission Total Segregation as mobilisers, going door-to-door with the waste collection vehicles. Workers have been provided with registers to track waste separation efforts.
