Patna: The excise department, in collaboration with the local police, conducted a joint raid in Danapur and Rupaspur, adjacent to the capital Patna, on Friday afternoon, recovering a massive consignment of foreign liquor. One individual was arrested during the operation, while the main accused remains at large.
Acting on a tip-off about a large quantity of foreign liquor being transported in a truck concealed within potato sacks, the police launched an operation. Around 1 pm, the police intercepted a truck near the RPS turn. Upon questioning the occupants and inspecting the vehicle, they discovered 4500 litres of foreign liquor hidden beneath the potato sacks. The truck, bearing registration number HP-38H/6550 from Himachal Pradesh, was subsequently seized.
Ranvijay Kumar, the officer-in-charge of the police station, confirmed that the truck had been stopped based on confidential information. During the investigation, it was revealed that the truck driver, Ramesh Kumar, a resident of Barmer, Rajasthan, was transporting the consignment. The potatoes and liquor were reportedly loaded in Ludhiana and destined for Muzaffarpur.
The police suspect the involvement of a potato trader in this illegal operation and have launched raids to apprehend him. Kumar stated that the seized liquor and potatoes were being transported in collusion with the trader, and further investigations are underway.
