Patna: As the grand festival of Sharadiya Navratri unfolds, the state of Bihar, including the capital Patna, is immersed in a devotional atmosphere. Majestic Durga pandals have been constructed across cities and towns, with the installation of idols of Goddess Durga soon to follow. Meanwhile, the Patna Police and administration are fully prepared to ensure peace and harmony during Durga Puja.
During the peak festive days of Saptami, Ashtami, and Navami, large crowds of devotees gather at Durga pandals, while on Vijayadashami (Dussehra), which falls on 12th October this year, the streets will be filled with processions for the immersion of the idols. The police have put special plans in place to manage the immersion processions, including issuing procession licences with strict conditions to prevent any disturbances.
To maintain peace, additional police forces have been deployed across the state, with a special focus on areas prone to large gatherings and possible disruptions. In Patna alone, idols of Maa Durga are being installed at 1,365 locations, including 23 permanent installations, with the remaining idols set for immersion after the festival. Across Bihar, around 16,000 idols are expected to be installed, up from last year’s 15,559.
Rajiv Mishra, DIG cum SSP Patna, highlighted that Durga Puja and Peace Committee meetings have been held at all police station and sub-division levels. DJ use has been banned during immersion processions, and continuous police patrolling and flag marches are underway. Additional forces have been deployed in identified sensitive areas, with heightened surveillance along the Indo-Nepal border and neighbouring state borders.
In total, the Bihar Police Headquarters has dispatched 31 DSPs, 450 inspectors, 12 anti-riot squads, and over 10,000 home guards across the state. Patna district alone will see the deployment of 6 DSPs, 80 inspectors, one anti-riot squad, PTC trainees, and 2,200 home guards.
The police will also closely monitor social media activity during Durga Puja through 24/7 surveillance at both state and district levels to prevent the spread of anti-social content. In case of emergencies, citizens can contact the police via the toll-free number 14432. The Railway Police have also made special arrangements for the festival, with passengers able to seek assistance through the RailMadad App.
Patna DIG Rajiv Mishra reiterated the commitment to ensuring a safe and peaceful Durga Puja throughout the state.
