Patna: The Patna High Court has granted the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) an extension until December 20, 2024, to continue its investigation into the kidnapping of Muzaffarpur MBA student Yashi Singh. The CBI informed the court that it has initiated its investigation and requested additional time, which the court approved.

During the last hearing, Justice Rajiv Ranjan Prasad assigned the investigation responsibility to the CBI and directed the agency to submit a progress report within four weeks. The court also instructed the state CID to transfer all relevant documents and records to the CBI within two weeks.

Yashi Singh was a student at the LN Mishra Institute of Muzaffarpur when she was abducted by unknown assailants in December 2022. An FIR was filed at the Muzaffarpur Sadar police station, and local police began investigating the case. Despite their efforts, the investigation yielded no results.

Following a lack of progress from the local police, the family of the kidnapped student filed a petition with the Patna High Court on April 23, 2023. Subsequently, the court assigned the case to the State CID for further investigation.

However, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) established by the CID submitted reports to the court over the course of 18 months, yet they were unable to locate the missing student. As a result, the court transferred the case to the CBI and mandated a progress report within four weeks. The next hearing on this matter is scheduled for December 20, 2024. Advocate Arvind Kumar represented the petitioner, while Advocate Avnish Kumar Singh Rana appeared on behalf of the CBI.
