Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, on Tuesday, officially inaugurated the much-awaited double-deck flyover constructed along Ashok Rajpath, stretching from Kargil Chowk (near Gandhi Maidan) to Science College via PMCH. The ₹422 crore project was unveiled at a ceremony held near Kargil Chowk, where the Chief Minister cut the ribbon and unveiled the commemorative plaque.
Following the formal inauguration, Nitish Kumar inspected the newly constructed flyover, travelling both from Kargil Chowk to Science College and back. During the inspection, he paused at the PMCH point to understand its connectivity with the flyover. Expressing satisfaction, he said, “The double-deck flyover has been built excellently. With its completion, traffic congestion along Ashok Rajpath will be resolved, and the flow of vehicles will be smoother.”
The construction of the flyover had commenced in January 2022 and is now fully completed. Built in two layers above Ashok Rajpath, the elevated corridor begins near Gandhi Maidan at Kargil Chowk and extends up to Science College, passing by PMCH.
- The upper deck (Tier-II) spans 2,175.50 metres, dedicated to vehicles moving from Gandhi Maidan towards Science College.
- The lower deck (Tier-I) measures 1,449.30 metres and is meant for traffic travelling from Patna College towards Gandhi Maidan via BN College main gate.
Both decks offer direct connectivity to PMCH. The width of each deck is 8.5 metres, facilitating improved vehicle movement.
Inauguration of New Urdu Library Building
Later, the Chief Minister Nitish Kumar also inaugurated the newly constructed building of the State Urdu Library in Patna, developed at a cost of ₹3.07 crore. He unveiled the plaque and cut the ribbon, followed by an inspection of the premises to understand the facilities offered.
Pleased with the arrangements, he remarked, “The library provides a peaceful atmosphere and essential amenities for study and research. This new facility will greatly benefit readers and scholars. It’s important to maintain the upkeep of the building and ensure the services remain efficient.”
On this occasion, Education Minister Sunil Kumar presented a book to the Chief Minister as a token of welcome.
Established in 1938, the State Urdu Library was previously housed in a two-storey building located opposite Khajanchi Road turn on Ashok Rajpath. On average, 50–60 readers and researchers visit the library daily.
Besides Urdu, the library holds a rich collection of books in Hindi, English, Sanskrit, Persian, and Arabic. Approximately 40,000 books are available, covering a wide range of topics including general competitive exams, NCERT books from Class 3 to Class 12, library science, journalism, and more. Monthly magazines and newspapers in Urdu, Hindi, and English are also regularly subscribed to. Students and researchers from various states frequently visit the library.
Given the growing number of books and visitors, the government constructed a new G+4 building under the State Plan. It has been equipped with necessary furniture and infrastructure to cater to users effectively.
