Nitish Kumar Government Reorganises Child Rights Commission, Appoints Six New Members

Patna: Within six months of the formation of the NDA government, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar established a 20-point programme committee, appointing 25 members, including a president and two vice-presidents, in each district. The committee primarily consists of workers from JD(U), BJP, HAM, and LJP (Ram Vilas). Preparations are now underway for the reorganisation of various commissions, with the Child Rights Protection Commission being the first to see new appointments.

The Social Welfare Department has issued a notification appointing six new members to the Child Rights Protection Commission. These appointments are for a term of three years or until the members reach the age of 60, whichever is earlier. The newly appointed members, representing both JD(U) and BJP, include Dr. Hulesh Manjhi, Sangeeta Thakur, Jyoti Kumari, Sheela Pandit Prajapati, Sugriv Das, and Rakesh Singh. Three members are from JD(U) and three from BJP.

Earlier, on September 9, BJP’s state president Dilip Jaiswal met JD(U) state president Umesh Kushwaha at his residence. The meeting, which lasted over half an hour, sparked political speculation about the imminent formation of various commissions and boards in Bihar. Reports suggest that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar had sought nominations from the BJP for key positions in these bodies.

With the reorganisation of commissions and boards, around 200 leaders and workers from NDA constituent parties are expected to receive Minister of State status, along with salaries, allowances, and other facilities. Salaries are anticipated to range between ₹2 lakh and ₹3 lakh, along with additional benefits. As a result, many JD(U), BJP, and other NDA party workers are closely monitoring developments and vying for these coveted appointments.
