Patna: Former Mokama MLA Anant Singh, who has been lodged in Patna’s Beur Jail since 24 January, appeared for a bail hearing today at the Patna MP-MLA Court. Singh had surrendered after an FIR was registered against him in the Mokama firing case.
During the hearing, the court requested the police to present the case diary related to case number 4/25, registered at Panchmahal Police Station. Advocate Dinkar Dubey stated that the next bail hearing will take place once the case diary is submitted.
Gang War in Mokama: Multiple FIRs Registered
Anant Singh surrendered at Barh Court on 24 January, following which he was sent to judicial custody for 14 days. His arrest stems from a violent clash that occurred on 22 January in Nauranga Jalalpur village, where a gang war broke out between Anant Singh and the Sonu-Monu gang. The incident saw an exchange of 60-70 rounds of gunfire, leading to multiple FIRs being filed from both sides.
Apart from Anant Singh, one of his supporters is also in jail, while Sonu Singh, a key member of the Sonu-Monu gang, is in police custody. However, Monu Singh remains absconding.
According to Anant Singh, the conflict arose when he attempted to mediate a dispute involving Sonu-Monu, who had allegedly taken over a villager’s house. “I went to help the victim and reason with them, but they opened fire on us, forcing us to retaliate,” he claimed. Meanwhile, Sonu-Monu’s family has accused Singh of attempting to kill their sons.
Four FIRs Filed in the Mokama Firing Case
The police have registered four separate FIRs in connection with the incident:
- Mukesh Kumar’s FIR against Sonu-Monu – Alleging extortion and threats.
- Police FIR against Anant Singh – Accusing him of obstructing government work and violating the Arms Act.
- Sonu-Monu’s father’s FIR against Anant Singh – Alleging an attempt to murder.
- Anant Singh’s supporter Uday Yadav’s FIR against Sonu-Monu – Uday Yadav, who was shot during the incident, filed this complaint.
As the investigation continues, the court’s decision on Anant Singh’s bail remains pending, awaiting the submission of the case diary.
