Patna: In Bihar, excitement is building for Durga Puja and Dussehra, especially in Masaurhi, Patna district, where the Dussehra Committee is once again preparing for the Ravana Dahan programme. Effigies of Ravana, Kumbhkaran, and Meghnad are currently under construction for the event.

The Ravana Vadh ceremony has been held at Gandhi Maidan in Masaurhi for the past 37 years. This year, a 50-foot-high effigy of Ravana is being crafted, while Meghnad’s effigy will stand at 45 feet, and Kumbhkaran’s at 40 feet.

On the day of the ceremony, the event begins with a grand procession (Shobha Yatra) of Ram, Janaki, and Laxman through the entire city. The Ravana Dahan programme will then take place at Gandhi Maidan at 4:00 pm. Local youth are working tirelessly to ensure the success of the event.

According to the Shri Kali Puja Committee of Taregana Gola, this year, the committee has chosen not to hire artisans from outside, instead relying on the skills of Masaurhi’s young artisans to prepare the effigies. The local administration is also actively involved in the preparations for the Ravana Vadh ceremony.

To maintain order during the event, police officers will be deployed in plain clothes, and security will be monitored through watchtowers and drone cameras. Several CCTV cameras have been installed, and barricades are being set up to manage the crowds expected on Dussehra.

The Kali Puja Committee has organised the Ravana Vadh programme for the past 37 years, and according to Paltan Singh, President of the Dussehra Committee, this year’s ceremony will be celebrated with the same enthusiasm and joy at Gandhi Maidan.
