Patna: Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Friday termed the day “historic for women” as he participated in the ‘Nari Shakti for Viksit Bharat Run’ organised under the Nari Shakti Vandan campaign. The Chief Minister flagged off the participants at Digha Golambar on JP Ganga Path, marking the beginning of the event with a show of support for women’s empowerment.
He also marked his presence by signing the ongoing signature campaign being conducted as part of the initiative.
BJP MLA Shreyasi Singh accorded a warm welcome to the Chief Minister. Addressing the gathering, Choudhary congratulated the organisers and said the programme symbolised the growing strength of women. “If the Women’s Reservation Bill is passed by the Lok Sabha today, it will be a revolutionary moment for women in the country,” he said.
He added that once the Nari Shakti Vandan Bill is enacted, the number of seats in the Lok Sabha would increase from 543 to 816, with one-third reserved exclusively for women. “Women will not only raise their voices in Parliament by winning these seats but will also play a decisive role in governing the country,” Choudhary remarked.
Highlighting progress in Bihar, he credited former Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for providing 50 per cent reservation to women in Panchayati Raj institutions and urban local bodies, which has significantly strengthened their participation and self-reliance.

The Chief Minister further said Prime Minister Narendra Modi has resolved that one-third of the 816 Lok Sabha seats, as well as seats in state assemblies, will be won by women, ensuring greater representation. He called upon the people of Bihar to collectively welcome this decision with unity.
Among those present were former sports minister Ms Singh, MLAs Rama Nishad and Sangeeta Kumari, Patna Mayor Sita Sahu, District Magistrate Dr Thyagarajan SM, Senior Superintendent of Police Kartikeya K Sharma, along with other dignitaries and a large number of women participants.
