Patna: The Bihar Central Selection Board of Constable (CSBC) has made a significant decision, addressing the concerns of candidates protesting over eligibility requirements. This move comes after thousands of candidates, who had cleared the recruitment examination for 21,391 Bihar Police constable posts, staged a protest at Gardanibagh in Patna.
Key Concerns Raised by Candidates
The protesting candidates highlighted that the notification for the recruitment did not initially mention the requirement for updated Economically Weaker Section (EWS) or Non-Creamy Layer (NCL) certificates. They argued that obtaining these documents at short notice was impractical.
CSBC’s Decision
In response, the CSBC announced that candidates would not be declared ineligible during the physical efficiency test (PET) and document verification due to the absence of current EWS or NCL certificates. The Bihar Home Department (Police Branch) clarified in a notification that no candidate would be deemed unsuccessful based on the validity period or date of issue of these certificates.
Details of the Recruitment Process
The constable recruitment examination was conducted twice after the first test was cancelled due to a paper leak. Over 13 lakh candidates appeared in the re-examination, out of which 1,07,089 candidates were declared successful. Among these, 60% are women, and 11 are transgender candidates.
The physical efficiency test is scheduled to begin on 9 December, and candidates are now actively preparing for this phase without the concern of immediate disqualification over documentation.
This decision by the CSBC provides much-needed relief to candidates, ensuring that they are not penalised for administrative challenges in obtaining certificates.
