Patna: The Government Railway Police (GRP) arrested a person carrying ₹30 lakh in cash while he was alighting from the Rajdhani Express at Patliputra station in Patna. The GRP personnel took the individual to the police station, where, during interrogation, he identified himself as a contractor.
When the police asked for details regarding the cash, the individual failed to provide a satisfactory explanation. Consequently, the railway police informed the Income Tax Department and initiated legal action against him. The arrested person has been identified as Abhishek Anand, a resident of Lodipur in the Punpun police station area, who currently resides at ABC Complex in Makdumpur, within the Digha police station area.
During questioning, Abhishek Anand claimed to be a contractor based in Patna and stated that he was transporting money from Katihar to pay wages. He was en route to his residence from Patliputra station. However, when asked to present documents related to the money, he failed to provide any. The bag contained 60 bundles of ₹500 notes.
Officials from the Income Tax Department will conduct further investigations. Upon receiving the information, Income Tax Department officials arrived at the scene, seized the cash, and are questioning the individual.
Patliputra station GRP in-charge, Pankaj Kumar, stated that a special inspection campaign is being carried out to prevent crime on railways during Durga Puja. A person with a backpack was spotted acting suspiciously at the northern end of platform number one at Patliputra station. On suspicion, he was questioned, and his bag was searched, revealing ₹30 lakh in cash. The arrested individual has been identified as Abhishek Anand, a resident of Lodipur in the Punpun police station area, according to Pankaj Kumar, GRP station in-charge at Patliputra Station.
