Patna: Criminal audacity appears to be on the rise in Patna, as armed assailants shot a businessman and left him critically injured in the Shastri Nagar police station area on Tuesday night.
The incident took place in the Shivpuri locality near the gate of an apartment on CP Thakur Road No. 2. The victim has been identified as Dilip Singh. According to reports, Singh had returned to his apartment at around 9:30 pm from his office, ‘MP Engicom’, located at Kumar Tower on Boring Road. As he reached the gate, unidentified motorcycle-borne assailants, who were lying in wait, opened indiscriminate fire at him.
Eyewitnesses said the attackers fired around five rounds, two of which struck Singh. He collapsed on the spot with serious injuries. Local residents rushed him to Ruban Hospital in Patna, where his condition remains critical.
On receiving information, the Shastri Nagar police reached the scene and initiated an investigation. Teams from the District Intelligence Unit (DIU) and the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) were also called in. The FSL team recovered a spent cartridge from the spot, which has been sent for examination.
Police officials said CCTV footage of the incident has surfaced, capturing the entire sequence. The footage shows that as Singh approached the apartment stairs, an armed assailant stopped him and suddenly opened fire. Despite being injured, Singh attempted to flee towards the building, but the attacker chased him while continuing to shoot.

Secretariat SDPO-2 Saket Kumar said the case is being investigated thoroughly and police teams have been directed to ensure the swift arrest of the accused. “Patrolling in the area has been intensified and the situation is being closely monitored,” he added.
After carrying out the attack, the two assailants fled on a motorcycle towards Atal Path. Police are scanning CCTV footage from nearby areas and conducting raids at possible hideouts.
Meanwhile, JD(U) leader Shyam Rajak visited the hospital and enquired about the victim’s condition. “Such incidents are deeply concerning. Strict action must be taken against the criminals. I urge the police to arrest them at the earliest and ensure the harshest punishment,” he said.
