Bodies of Two Drowned Students Recovered from Punpun River in Patna

Patna: Family members, clinging to the hope of a miracle, were left devastated when the bodies of two students who had drowned were recovered from the Punpun river in Patna on Wednesday. The students had drowned while bathing on Tuesday, prompting a continuous search by the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF).

According to reports, seven students from Parsa Bazar in Patna district had left their homes on Tuesday, pretending they were going to school, and instead went to bathe in the Punpun river. A tragic accident occurred while they were in the water, and two of the students were swept away by the river’s strong current. After receiving the report of the drowning, local police and the SDRF began their search operation.

The group of seven had gone to bathe at Sant Shiromani Ravidas Ghat in Zahidpur, where the two students drowned. Shocked by the incident, the remaining five students left the scene. The victims were identified as Gaurav Kumar (14), son of Dilip Sao, a resident of Lalu Path Etwarpur under Parsa Bazar police station, and Gaurav Kumar (15), a resident of Kurthaul Bodhachak.

Wailing family members

Following the incident, the families of the boys were distraught, but until the bodies were found, they held onto a glimmer of hope. However, when the bodies were recovered, grief engulfed the families, with scenes of wailing and despair.

“The bodies of both students who drowned in the Punpun river were recovered near Samkuda village. The SDRF team had been conducting continuous rescue operations,” said Punpun Trainee DSP Pallavi Kumari.
