Patna: Ahead of the sixth round of the Bihar Open FIDE Rating Chess Championship, Bihar’s Sports Minister, Ms Shreyasi Singh, visited the competition venue at the Pataliputra Sports Complex in Kankarbagh and boosted the morale of the participants with an inspiring address.
The tournament, being organised jointly by the Bihar State Sports Authority, the State Sports Department, the Government of Bihar, and the All Bihar Chess Association, is the largest of its kind held in the state to date. Praising the scale and organisation of the event, Ms Singh said that just as India has established a strong presence on the global chess stage, a similar spirit and energy are now visible among players from Bihar. She assured both players and organisers of full support from the state government.
The minister inaugurated the sixth round by making the ceremonial first move on Board One alongside Grandmaster Peter Kiriakov. On the occasion, All Bihar Chess Association President Diljeet Khanna and Secretary Dharmendra Kumar honoured her with a memento, while Deputy Director Himanshu Singh conducted the proceedings.
Following the conclusion of Round Six, three players are jointly leading the standings with six points each.
On Board One, Grandmaster Kiriakov, playing with the black pieces, defeated Patna’s Tabshir Alam in 41 moves. The match kept spectators engrossed, with several moments suggesting a possible draw. However, the Grandmaster’s experience proved decisive as he capitalised on his bishop pair in a French Defence to secure victory.

On Board Two, Indrajeet Mahindrakar, playing white, broke through the Indian Defence in 31 moves to claim a win. On Board Three, West Bengal’s Parambrata Sarkar forced former Bihar State Champion Saurabh Roop to resign in just 21 moves in an Anglo-Indian Defence.
