Patna: Bihar claimed a 43-run victory over Assam on the third day of their U-19 Cooch Behar Trophy match at Barpeta, Assam, on Friday.
Bihar won the toss and opted to bat first but struggled, scoring only 70 runs before being bowled out. Assam replied with 128 in their first innings, securing a lead of 58 runs. However, in the second innings, Bihar staged a comeback led by Prithvi Raj, who played a remarkable knock of 156 not out. This effort helped Bihar post 265, setting Assam a target of 208 runs to win. Assam, however, could not chase it down, as they were bowled out for 164, giving Bihar a 43-run victory.
Bihar began the third day of the match with a score of 235 for eight wickets and managed to reach 265 before being all out. Prithvi Raj’s brilliant innings of 156 not out, supported by a 61-run partnership with Suman Kumar for the ninth wicket, played a crucial role in boosting Bihar’s total. Key contributions also came from Aditya Sinha (29), Agastya (13), and Satyam Kumar (12).
In Assam’s bowling attack, Harsh Kumar took four wickets, while Mohit Thakur took three, Ayushman Malakar claimed two, and P. Kashyap picked up one.
Chasing a target of 208, Assam had a rocky start, with five of their batsmen back in the pavilion at just 70 runs. The team was ultimately dismissed for 164. Dyutimoy Nath (49) and Prabal Kalita (44) provided some resistance, but it wasn’t enough. For Bihar, Satyam Kumar led the bowling with five wickets, while Aditya Raj took three and Suman Kumar added two.
Bihar will face Kerala in their next match in Trivandrum on 13th November.
