Patna: In a significant move aimed at enhancing farmer convenience and ensuring transparency, Bihar Agriculture Minister, Ram Kripal Yadav, on Friday launched a new feature on the Bihar Agriculture Mobile App that enables farmers to access real-time information on fertiliser availability. The launch took place at Krishi Bhawan in Mithapur.
Addressing the gathering, the Minister said the state government remains fully committed to safeguarding farmers’ interests. To ensure that farmers do not face difficulties in accessing fertilisers, the Agriculture Department has integrated this new facility into the already operational Bihar Agriculture Mobile App. Farmers can now check the availability of urea, DAP, and other fertilisers at nearby shops directly on their mobile phones.
He noted that there had been persistent complaints that farmers were often turned away by retailers citing “out of stock” issues despite fertilisers being available. Calling the situation distressing, he said the initiative aims to eliminate such practices. With the new system in place, retailers will no longer be able to mislead farmers, as complete stock details will now be publicly accessible.
The Minister further stated that the initiative would effectively curb black marketing, hoarding, and overpricing, while ensuring transparency in the fertiliser distribution system. He described the move as a key step towards empowering farmers through technology, adding that a strong farming community is vital for the strength of both the state and the nation.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment, he said continuous efforts are being made to improve farmers’ welfare, convenience, and prosperity. “Our resolve is to ensure timely availability of fertilisers at fair prices without any inconvenience,” he added.
Highlighting the uniqueness of the initiative, the Minister claimed that, to his knowledge, no other state in India currently offers such a facility, making Bihar the first to introduce it.
He also informed that around 9.35 lakh farmers in the state are already using the Bihar Agriculture App to access information related to government schemes, weather updates, crop protection, and market prices from the comfort of their homes.
The initiative marks an important step by the Bihar government towards digitally empowering farmers and bringing greater transparency to the agricultural sector.
