Bihar Government Transfers Moinul Haq Stadium to Bihar Cricket Association, Paves Way for World-Class Venue

Patna: In a historic move on 10 December 2024, the Bihar government officially transferred the land of Moinul Haq Stadium to the Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) on a 30-year lease, marking a significant step towards elevating cricket in the state. This decision was formalised as Mahendra Kumar, Director of the Sports Department, signed the registration papers on behalf of the government, while Rakesh Kumar Tiwari, President of the BCA, signed on behalf of the association.

The state government waived the land registration fee, amounting to approximately ₹37 crore, demonstrating its commitment to the development of a world-class cricket facility in Bihar. The signing ceremony was attended by Deputy Director of Sports Sanjay Kumar, Patna District Sports Officer Om Prakash, BCA Secretary Ziaul Afreen, and GM Admin Neeraj Rathore, along with other dignitaries.

Speaking after the registration, Rakesh Kumar Tiwari expressed his gratitude to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, and the Bihar government for their unwavering support. He announced that the foundation stone for the stadium’s redevelopment would be laid early in the new year, with construction to begin promptly thereafter. The BCA aims to complete the project within two to three years, delivering a world-class stadium capable of hosting international matches.

Plans for the Revamped Stadium

The upgraded Moinul Haq Stadium is envisioned as a premier sports complex with a seating capacity of 40,000 spectators. It will also include 76 corporate boxes, 250 VIP seats, a badminton court, a volleyball court, a swimming pool, a five-star hotel, a fully equipped hostel for players, a clubhouse, and a restaurant.

This redevelopment follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on 6 November 2024 between the Bihar government and the BCA. The grand MoU ceremony was graced by Deputy Chief Ministers Samrat Chaudhary and Vijay Kumar Sinha, Urban Development Minister Nitin Naveen, Sports Minister Surendra Mehta, and several legendary cricketers.

The transformation of Moinul Haq Stadium into a world-class facility underscores Bihar’s commitment to nurturing cricket and providing top-tier infrastructure for players and fans.
