Patna: Bihar bowlers put on an impressive display on the first day of their Vijay Merchant Trophy Under-16 Multi-day Cricket Tournament match against Tripura, restricting the opposition to 190 runs for nine wickets in 92 overs. The match began on Friday, 6 December, at the MGM School Ground in Cuttack, Odisha.
After winning the toss, Tripura opted to bat but found themselves in early trouble as Bihar’s bowlers reduced them to 60 for five. A vital 50-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Sandipan Das and Prasannajit Chakraborty helped steady the innings. Contributions from the middle and lower order pushed the score forward, but Tripura remained on the back foot.
At the close of play, Tripura had 190 runs on the board with two unbeaten batsmen, Kishan Sarkar and Shubhdeep Paul, both on 14 runs. Sandipan Das top-scored for Tripura with 48, while Prasannajit Chakraborty added 26 runs. Other contributions included Adi Debnath and Prithiraj Gop, who both scored 19, and Mahin and Siddharth Debnath, who chipped in with 12 runs each.
Bihar’s bowling attack was led by Aryan Patel and Animesh Raj, both taking three wickets. Aryan conceded 42 runs, while Animesh gave away 31. Satyam Raj also performed well, picking up two wickets for 43 runs, and Abhijeet Singh claimed one wicket for just five runs.
Day two promises to be crucial as Bihar aims to quickly wrap up Tripura’s innings and take control of the match.
