Patna: The Baidyanath Prasad Memorial Under-13 Inter-School Cricket Tournament commenced on Tuesday, 10 December, at the Cricket Academy of Bihar ground. The event, organised by the Baidyanath Prasad Foundation, was inaugurated by Patna Mayor Sita Sahu, Bihar Cricket Association (BCA) President Rakesh Kumar Tiwari, Secretary Ziaul Afarfin, GM Admin Neeraj Rathore, Deputy Mayor Reshmi Chandravanshi, and BCA Tournament Committee Chairman Anand Mishra. The ceremony included a lamp-lighting and the release of balloons, symbolising the start of the tournament.
Shishir Kumar, son of the late Baidyanath Prasad and the organising president, welcomed the dignitaries with floral bouquets and mementoes in recognition of their support.
In the opening match, Basawan Park Cricket Academy defeated Srikrishnapuri Cricket Academy by four wickets in a thrilling contest.
Encouragement for Young Talent
Speaking at the event, BCA President Rakesh Kumar Tiwari highlighted the significance of school-level tournaments in discovering cricketing talent. He lauded the organisers for their efforts and emphasised Bihar’s growing presence in Indian cricket, with local players now representing the national team. Tiwari also reiterated the BCA’s commitment to supporting young cricketers, mentioning the state government’s contribution of land for a new stadium.
The event was graced by several notable attendees, including Bihar Ranji team coach Pramod Kumar, Patna Municipal Corporation committee members, and numerous ward councillors. Organising Secretary Santosh Tiwari expressed his gratitude to all participants and supporters.
