Patna: A major daylight robbery was reported on Tuesday at a jewellery shop under Danapur police station limits in Patna. Four armed miscreants, riding two motorcycles, looted gold ornaments worth approximately ₹4 lakh from Vaishnavi Jewellers on RPS Kali Mandir Road and fled after opening fire. CCTV footage of the incident has also surfaced.
The crime took place between 2 pm and 3 pm when four youths, posing as customers, entered the shop. Two of them were wearing helmets while the other two had covered their faces with masks. Shortly after entering, they brandished firearms and began looting. The assailants smashed the glass counter, seized gold ornaments, and also took jewellery kept inside a Godrej locker. In addition, they decamped with around ₹5,000 in cash.
When shop owner Suman resisted, the attackers assaulted him, striking his head with the butt of a pistol and leaving him injured. Before fleeing, the criminals fired two rounds and escaped towards RPS Engineering College.
Two female customers were present inside the shop at the time of the incident, adding to the panic in the area. All the accused had their faces covered, making identification difficult.
Upon receiving information, a police team from Rupaspur police station reached the spot and launched an investigation. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined, and raids are being conducted to identify and apprehend the culprits.
Local residents reported that a Tata Nexon car had been stolen from the same locality four days earlier, for which a complaint had been lodged. The recent incidents have heightened concerns over rising crime in the area. It is learnt that City SP (West) Bhanu Pratap Singh was engaged in probing an ATM robbery at Dhibra Mor at the time the incident occurred.
