Sovima (Nagaland): Bihar strengthened their commanding position against Nagaland in the CK Nayudu Trophy Plate Under-23 multi-day match, enforcing the follow-on with a massive 400-run lead by the close of play on the third day at the Sovima Cricket Ground.
Batting first, Bihar piled up a formidable 714 runs in 157.3 overs before declaring their innings. In reply, Nagaland were bundled out for 158 in just 57.1 overs in their first innings.
Bihar’s bowlers played a decisive role, with Suman Kumar returning figures of 3 for 15 from nine overs, including five maidens, while Suraj Kashyap claimed 3 for 31 from 13 overs. For Nagaland, Sameer Ali top-scored with 51, but the rest of the batting line-up failed to build any substantial partnerships.
Asked to follow on, Nagaland showed greater resistance in their second innings and reached 156 for five in 56 overs by stumps on day three. Keneijetu Rio (39 not out) and Sujal Prasad (38 not out) were at the crease, offering some hope.
In the second innings, Suraj Kashyap once again led Bihar’s attack with three wickets, while Suman Kumar and Aditya Raj picked up one wicket each. The bowlers maintained sustained pressure and kept a tight check on the scoring rate.
At the end of the third day, Nagaland still trail Bihar by 400 runs with five wickets in hand. Bihar remain firmly in control and will take the field on the fourth day with clear intentions of pushing towards a decisive victory.
