Patna: In a chilling reminder of the deteriorating law-and-order situation, criminals once again threw an open challenge to the police in Patna by carrying out a gruesome murder. A 73-year-old woman, Madhavi Das — a retired teacher — was brutally killed at her residence in the posh AG Colony area under the Shastri Nagar police station limits.
The horrific crime has sent shockwaves through the locality. The victim, who lived alone at house number C-71, was found murdered inside her home, creating an atmosphere of fear and panic in the entire area.
According to initial information, unidentified assailants quietly entered the house through the rear gate on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday. The motive was reportedly robbery. When the elderly woman resisted, the attackers displayed extreme brutality, slitting her throat with a sharp weapon, leading to her instant and painful death.
The blood-soaked body lying inside the silent house bore grim testimony to the barbarity that has once again shamed humanity.
After committing the murder, the criminals fled with a gold chain and two gold rings. The incident has clearly exposed the audacity of criminals in the capital. If elderly women living alone are unsafe even in Patna’s posh colonies, the security of ordinary neighbourhoods can easily be imagined.
On receiving information, police from Shastri Nagar police station rushed to the spot and sealed the area. Secretariat DSP Saket Kumar said a forensic team has been called in to collect evidence from the house. Footage from nearby CCTV cameras is being examined to identify the perpetrators.

Police received information about the incident on Saturday morning. When officers reached the house, the body was found lying in a pool of blood. Investigations are underway from all possible angles, and police have assured that the culprits will be arrested soon.
Officials also revealed that the victim’s husband, who worked in the Accountant General’s office, passed away in 2022. Since then, Madhavi Das had been living alone in the house. Neighbours described her as soft-spoken and said she had no disputes with anyone.
The sensational murder has once again raised serious questions over Patna’s law-and-order situation. Local residents are gripped by both anger and fear, demanding the immediate arrest of the accused and stronger security measures in the capital to prevent such incidents in the future.
