Patna: Bihar government has extended the scope of the Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, providing major relief to workers and frontline personnel.
Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHA), anganwadi workers and helpers, personnel of the Special Armed Police Force, and labourers registered with the Building and Construction Workers’ Welfare Board will now be covered under the scheme. Eligible beneficiaries and their families will be entitled to health insurance coverage of up to ₹5 lakh per year.
According to information from the State Health Security Committee, the decision will benefit the families of more than 1.7 million workers across the state by ensuring health security.
A senior official of Bihar Health Security Committee said that a total of 2,68,492 families associated with ASHA workers, anganwadi workers and helpers have been brought under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
In addition, families of labourers registered with the Building and Construction Workers’ Welfare Board have also been included. The health insurance for these workers will be provided by the Labour Resources Department, which will also bear the cost of insurance claims related to medical treatment in case of illness.
He added that the total number of beneficiaries, including ASHA workers, anganwadi workers and helpers, exceeds three lakh. The government’s objective is to ensure that workers in the unorganised sector and grassroots-level service providers do not face financial hardship in the event of serious illness.
