Bhagalpur: The three- day Vikrmashila Mahotsav will be organized this year from March 14. A decision to this effect was taken at meeting convened by district administration on Friday this week for discussing preparatory arrangements of Mahotsav.
District Magistrate (DM) Nawal Kishore Choudhury chaired the meeting. An annual cultural feast, Vikramshila Mahotsav showcases art and culture besides tradition of this region.
Organized by state Bihar Tourism Department in collaboration with district administration, the Mahotsav is organized close to excavation site of ancient Vikramshila university in Kahalgaon subdivision of this district.
Taking note of the fact Vikramshila Mahotsav provides opportunity of displaying creative talents to locals in field of art, culture and literature, it was decided more such opportunities for local talents would be provided in cultural feast this year.

With sizeable tribal population residing in area located close to venue of the Mahotsav particularly in Pirpainty block of Kahalgaon subdivision, the tribal artists apart from local artists it was decided would be provided more exposure in Mahotsav.
The school students in general particularly students of Kasturba Gandhi Girls High School and children of Kilkari School would be extended comparatively more opportunity of stage participation in Mahotsav this time.
The national and state level artists would also perform in the Mahotsav, it was further decided. The fund for organizing Mahotsav is provided by tourism department, the SDO Kahalgaon informed participants in the meeting.

He added one day expenses of the three- day Mahotsav incurred on artistes was met by NTPC, Kahalgaon last year. To ensure success of Mahotsav it was decided meetings would be organized at block and panchayat levels apart from local level.
The concerned officials were directed by DM to plan setting up of local food item stalls during Mahotsav. He also directed for publicizing government schemes through posters and banners. Those present in the meeting included MLA’s of Kahalgaon and Pirpainty, DDC, SP (city) beside others.
