Bhagalpur: A new Bhagalpur railway station aimed at decongesting existing railway station here is proposed to be constructed at Bhagalpur-Hansdiha- Dumka route by upgrading Jagdishpur halt station, located at a distance of 14.40-kilometer from existing station.
With no further scope for construction of new lines including stabling lines for rake maintenance besides platforms at existing railway station here, construction of new Bhagalpur station has been proposed. Under railway plan for expanding capacity of coaching terminals in key cities, the construction of new Bhagalpur station has been proposed by Eastern Railway (ER).
Taking note of rapidly increasing travel demand, the railway it may be mentioned aims at doubling capacity of major cities within next five years for providing new train services.
“The capacity of coaching terminals in key cities is being expanded to meet rising passenger demand and reducing congestion. The move will upgrade railway network beside significantly improving nationwide connectivity” Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, railway minister has been quoted in ER press release detailing objectives concerning capacity expansion of coaching terminals.
A comprehensive plan for doubling existing infrastructural capacities to handle increased travel demand of passengers is under consideration for 48 major cities. Kolkata apart from Bhagalpur under jurisdiction of ER have been selected for the purpose.
For construction of new Bhagalpur station by upgrading Jagdishpur halt station, a project plan involving expenditure of Rs 310 crore has been sent to railway board for approval. The new Bhagalpur station with all required infrastructure would be able to accommodate large volume of passengers, optimizing comfort and enhancing overall travel experience of passengers.
As per project plan concerning construction of new Bhagalpur station, the new station will have three high level passenger platforms with sheds and quick watering facility, two foot over bridges, service building and circulating area, four loop lines, two-goods line, five stabling lines, two shunting necks, two rake transfer lines, two sick lines and three pit lines.
The railway has also planned major redevelopment of existing railway station here. The concept plan of redevelopment project has been prepared. Tentatively the redevelopment project would involve expenditure of Rs 481.60 crore rupees. The work for preparing Detailed Project Report (DPR) of redevelopment plan is underway at present.
Falling under Malda division of ER, capacity augmentation of railway lines besides multi tracking works have been also planned for some railway sections in this region.
The muti tracking works planned for railway sections in this region include construction of third and fourth line between Barharwa and Bhagalpur stations, doubling of track between Jamalpur and Sabdalpur including bridge over river Ganga in Munger district, construction of fourth line in Bhagalpur – Jamalpur section, construction of fourth line between Jamalpur and Kiul stations besides doubling of railway line between Hansdiha and Godda station.
The DPR of planned multitracking works have been submitted in certain cases while process of preparing DPR is underway for other identified works.
