Patna: A special checking campaign was conducted on platform number 2 of Patna Junction, leading to the arrest of three notorious criminals. The operation, led by Railway Police DSP Prabhakar Tiwari and Patna Junction GRP Station In-charge RK Sinha, uncovered stolen goods worth approximately ₹4 lakh, including cash, jewellery, and mobile phones.
The campaign was initiated to curb criminal activities, which often escalate after the festival season. During the operation, five individuals near the foot overbridge attempted to flee upon seeing the police. Three were apprehended after a brief chase, while two, including a key suspect, Kallu Churaman alias Kallu Paswan, managed to escape amidst the crowd.
The arrested individuals, identified as Anand Kumar, Chintu Kumar, and Pramod Kumar, have a history of serious crimes, including robbery and dacoity, stretching from Buxar to Patna City. Recovered items include ₹38,900 in cash, jewellery worth ₹3.5 lakh, and three stolen Android mobiles.
Investigations revealed the gang’s involvement in a recent ₹16 lakh robbery in Bihar Sharif. The criminals had allegedly used stolen funds to build luxurious properties and establish jewellery shops where stolen items were melted and sold. Raids at their hideouts exposed the extent of their operations, leaving police officials stunned.
Railway SP Amritendu Shekhar Thakur confirmed the ongoing crackdown on criminal activities at railway stations and announced plans to write to the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to initiate confiscation proceedings against properties acquired through stolen funds.
“These individuals have no legitimate source of income, and their properties will be seized if proven to have been acquired with stolen money,” Thakur stated. Further investigations are underway.
