38th Sukhdeo Narain Memorial Cricket Tournament Begins with Exciting Matches

Patna: The 38th edition of the prestigious All India Sukhdeo Narain Memorial Inter-School Cricket Tournament kicked off with enthusiasm at Jagjivan Stadium on Sunday under the theme ‘Ek Ped, Rashtra Ke Naam’ (One Tree for the Nation). The tournament, regarded as one of the most significant cricket events in Bihar and across the country, promises a thrilling series of matches.

The event was inaugurated by former MLC Ranbir Nandan, Bihar Players Association president Mrityunjay Tiwari, organising secretary Bijoy Kumar Narain Chunnu, and former Ranji player Vishnu Shankar. They marked the occasion with a ceremonial balloon release and met with the participating players. Numerous dignitaries, including Mrityunjay Narayan and Sandeep Patil, graced the occasion. The players took an oath to uphold sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

The opening day saw two exciting matches, with Dony Polo Public School defeating Jesus and Mary Academy by 25 runs and Gravity High School claiming victory over Divine Valley International School by 5 wickets.

First Match Summary:

Dony Polo Public School, batting first after losing the toss, set a target of 160 runs for 7 wickets in 20 overs, thanks to outstanding performances from Piyush and Amartya Chaudhary, both contributing 44 runs. Jesus and Mary Academy, despite a solid 54-run knock by Manjeet, could only manage 135 runs for 7 wickets. Amartya Chaudhary, excelling in both batting and bowling, took 3 wickets and was named Player of the Match by Vishnu Shankar.

Second Match Summary:

Divine Valley International School batted first and posted 89 runs for 8 wickets in 20 overs, with Aditya Singh scoring 40. Gravity High School’s bowlers, Mandeep Kumar Gyani and Bhaskar Anand, each took 3 wickets. Gravity High School successfully chased down the target, scoring 90 runs for 5 wickets in 13.2 overs. Piyush Kumar led the way with 25 runs, while Mandeep Kumar Gyani was named Player of the Match.
