Patna: Following instructions from Bihar Transport Secretary Sanjay Kumar Agrawal, a special enforcement campaign was launched across all districts, including Patna, targeting underage drivers of three-wheelers and those driving without valid licences. The campaign also focused on two-wheeler riders without helmets. A total of 913 vehicles were penalised for various violations under the Motor Vehicles Act during the operation. The campaign was conducted by the District Transport Officer (DTO), Additional District Transport Officer, Motor Vehicle Inspector (MVI), and Enforcement Sub-Inspector (ESI). Further special campaigns and stricter monitoring will be implemented in this direction.
The Transport Secretary emphasised that the objective of the campaign is to promote road safety and prevent minors from breaching traffic regulations. He stated that road safety remains a top priority, and driving by minors poses a serious risk not only to themselves but also to other road users. Therefore, strict measures are being taken to curb such activities.
During the campaign, 118 three-wheelers were seized when minors were found driving without a valid licence, and 22 minors were fined. In addition, 404 drivers were caught operating three-wheelers without valid licences in various districts, and all were fined accordingly.
Alongside the crackdown on underage drivers, helmet compliance campaigns are being conducted in the districts to increase the percentage of helmet use. On Thursday, 493 two-wheeler riders were penalised for not wearing helmets. The government is enforcing the mandatory use of helmets more strictly, recognising that riding without a helmet can lead to severe head injuries, which are often fatal.
