Patna: The Gaya team emerged as champions at the Bihar State Inter-District School Boys Under-17 Athletics Championships, amassing 43 points, while Muzaffarpur took the runner-up position with 12 points. Gaya athletes claimed 4 gold, 7 silver, and 2 bronze medals, while Muzaffarpur athletes won 2 gold and 2 bronze medals.
On the final day of the competition, held at the Patliputra Sports Complex and organised by the District Administration of Patna in association with the Bihar Sports Department and the Bihar State Sports Authority, Muzaffarpur’s Utkarsh Kumar stole the spotlight, winning gold in the 400-metre race with a time of 52.01 seconds, earning him the title of “Track King.” Gaya’s Jitu Kumar won silver (52.87 seconds), and Darbhanga’s Aditya Chaudhary took bronze (53.83 seconds). Utkarsh also claimed gold in the 200-metre race with a time of 23.56 seconds, with Gaya’s Ravikant Kumar (23.79 seconds) and Jitu Kumar (24.09 seconds) taking silver and bronze, respectively.
In the hammer throw event, Gaya’s Md. Qadir took gold with a throw of 53.90 metres. Gaya’s Devraj won silver (28.37 metres), and Muzaffarpur’s Yuvraj Kumar secured bronze (26.23 metres).
Double Gold Medalists:
- Utkarsh Kumar (Muzaffarpur) – Gold in the 200-metre and 400-metre races.
- Rajan Raj (Vaishali) – Gold in the 1500-metre and 3000-metre races.
- Devraj (Gaya) – Gold in shot put and discus throw, silver in hammer throw.
At the prize distribution and closing ceremony, Sanjay Kumar, District Education Officer of Patna, and Lokesh Kumar Jha, District Public Relations Officer of Patna, awarded the winning teams and athletes with trophies, medals, and certificates. The championship was officially closed with the lowering of the flag.
