Thrilling Victories for Divyanshu Kumar Singh and Maryam Fatima at Bihar State Junior Chess Championship

Patna: The Bihar State Junior Chess Championship, organized by the Gaya District Chess Association under the auspices of the All Bihar Chess Association, concluded with Divyanshu Kumar Singh of Kishanganj winning the boys’ title and Maryam Fatima triumphing in the girls’ category.

The final day of the four-day event witnessed intense competition. Divyanshu Kumar Singh faced Amrit Raunak of Muzaffarpur, the frontrunner in the final round, on the first board. Divyanshu, playing with the white pieces, secured a decisive victory. Simultaneously, Aniket Ranjan of Begusarai defeated Aakarsh Anand of Patna on the second board, also scoring six points. Based on tie-break points, Divyanshu was declared the champion, and Aniket took the runner-up position. Among the five players tied with five and a half points, Amrit Raunak was placed third, Prem Kumar of Chhapra fourth, and Dev Raj of Patna fifth.

In the girls’ category, Maryam Fatima of Muzaffarpur emerged victorious, scoring a perfect five out of five points. Maryam, who is also the reigning state women’s chess champion, successfully defended her title. Pari Sinha of Gaya secured the runner-up position, remaining unbeaten with three wins and two draws, totaling four points. Arpita Singh of Bhojpur and Ankita Raj of Patna finished third and fourth respectively, each with three and a half points.

Following the championship, prizes were awarded by Chief Guest Harekrishna Gupta, Commandant of the 29th Battalion, and Special Guest Colonel D. N. Singh, along with Mrs. Sanju Devi, Councilor of Bodh Gaya, Vijay Yadavendu, Dr. Satendra Kumar, and Tanya Jaiswal. The event was graced by Gaya District Chess Association president Jaiprakash Sinha, vice president SK Mihir, secretary Santosh Kumar, Chief Arbiter Nandkishore, and other notable dignitaries.
