Mumbai: India won six gold medals on Day 14 of the Asian Games 2026 in Aichi-Nagoya, Japan, taking its total medal count to 76. The haul included historic victories in women’s recurve archery, women’s hockey, and three boxing finals.
The women’s hockey team defeated China 1-0 in the final to win India’s first Asian Games gold in the sport since 1982, ending a 44-year wait. India’s total now stands at 16 gold, 25 silver, and 35 bronze medals.
Historic Archery Gold
India’s women’s recurve team of Ankita Bhakat, Kirti Sharma, and Kumkum Mohod won the country’s first-ever Asian Games gold in the event, defeating South Korea 5-3 in the final . South Korea had dominated the discipline, with 10 Olympic titles in women’s recurve archery .
The trio had earlier beaten China 5-1 in the semifinal to reach their first Asian Games final . In the final, a scoring correction on Kirti’s opening arrow in the fourth set helped India level the set and secure the title .
India also won silver in the men’s recurve team event, with Dhiraj Bommadevara, Yashdeep Bhoge, and Neeraj Chauhan losing 1-5 to South Korea . Kumkum Mohod and Dhiraj Bommadevara added another silver in the mixed recurve team event, going down 3-5 to China .
Boxing Success
Lovlina Borgohain won gold in the women’s 75kg category, defeating China’s Bao Ziyi by a unanimous 5-0 decision . The victory made her only the second Indian woman boxer to win an Asian Games gold, after Mary Kom in 2014 .
Parveen Hooda followed with gold in the women’s 65kg final, beating Nien-chin Chen of Chinese Taipei 3-2 . Ankush Panghal then won the men’s 80kg gold, defeating South Korea’s Kim Minseong 4-0 .
It is the first time two Indian women boxers have won gold at a single Asian Games edition .
Wrestling Comeback
Sujeet Kalkal won India’s first wrestling gold of the Games in the men’s 65kg freestyle category. Trailing Tajikistan’s Abdulmazhid Kudiev 6-9 late in the final, Kalkal scored a takedown to win 10-9 .
Other Medals
Nethra Kumanan won bronze in the women’s dinghy sailing event, her first Asian Games medal in her fourth appearance . The Indian men’s quadrant team in sepaktakraw secured bronze after losing 0-2 to Japan in the semifinal, giving India its first-ever Asian Games medal in the sport .
India is currently sixth in the overall medal standings. China leads with 159 gold medals and 303 total medals, followed by Japan with 64 gold and South Korea with 33 gold .
The Asian Games 2026 conclude on October 4.
